While there is a part of my heart that is kind of Spangel (reading One thing or your mother lately, I was like yeah, go on Spike, please rationalize why you won’t kill Angelus…. 😉 )

But y’know I’m a Bangel and I do think that they made each other better people, better heroes, and capable of sharing each others burdens without being co-dependant. So no shock, my answer will be Buffy.

( I will always want more Bangel, but honestly, I always want more Spangel content too, even if it is family/platonic more than romantic usually. I just think the two of them can connect in a way they can’t with others, if their pride wouldn’t get in the way. I just like their relationship with all its ups and downs)

Oh right, Frillyria. I remember the vociferous protests when I had some Angel/Frillyria banners. They seemed good too, to me.
 
I voted Buffy. That shouldn’t surprise anyone. Buffy was Angel’s motivation to be better in the first place and set him on the path Angel would later take. Buffy always saw the Angelus stuff as belonging to the past and loved him even after all the stuff that happened at the end of season 2. Buffy was always able to separate Angel from Angelus and he was always Angel to her. Buffy and Angel were both happy with each other and she had a look for Angel alone. Buffy never looked at anyone else that way. Angel learned from Buffy what being strong was. Buffy and Angel made each other better and the connection was always there. They always knew when the other was around and Buffy sensed Angel when he was human for the time in I Will Remember You. Without Buffy Angel would have kept going no where in his undead life and amounting to nothing. Good thing Whistler found him and showed him to Buffy and what Angel could be.

I always wanted more for Bangel and more for them and I always will. We never really got to see what they could have been to and for each other. Together they were a fighting force that couldn’t be beat and they were everything to and for each other. They were that to each other and to the extent they could be. With Angel human he and Buffy could be everything they always wanted to be and have what they always wanted to have.
 
I voted for Buffy, but I wouldn't disregard the effect Cordelia had on Angel either. Both women were good for him at different stages in his life. That being said, Cordelia's support works much better from a friendship angle (at least IMO) especially since her romantic support of Angel in Season 3 comes at the cost of her other relationships, particularly her friendship with Wes.

I voted for Darla cos without her biting him he never would have become Angel in the first place. Plus, one could argue she gave him Connor and baby daddy Angel was the most happy Angel without being soulless about it.
 
Canonically- for the show and Angel AtF only- its none of the above. It's Connor. Actually stated that he is the love of Angel's very long life.

Romantically Angel never does very well...but I think Connor made him feel connected to the world in a way nobody else ever did.

Plus, if this is only romantic relationships, why the f*** is Spike here? Angel can only stand him about...8% of the time, the rest he merely feels either annoyance or indifference.
 
The problem with Darla is that she damned Angel to the night. I mean, it's a fun couple, but Angel ultimately has her to blame for his being chained to hell.

Buffy works. Angel literally owes everything to her and Whistler, and ultimately, it's her banner he carries into battle. For story purposes, everything else is a fling, and Angel S7, Angel will regain his humanity and they'll walk off into the sunset together.

Plus if its 'intimacy' that's the only requirement then Angel was never intimate with Kate Lockley or Cordelia or Gwen. He was force-ably mind-controlled into sleeping with Eve.

I thought 'best for Angel' meant substative relationship that meant the most to him, not an embarrassing one-night stand he himself never references...

To answer the actual poll: Buffy. Not even close.

My last post came across as way grumpier than intended. I'm (stupidly) over-thinking a fun, fan-made poll that was created to start discussion. My apologies and carry on.
 
I would like to like Angel and Spike's relationship more than I do because they do have history and some really interesting scenes where they don't hate each other. But I can't get past the fact they beat each other up so badly in Angel season 5, sure it was over the Shanshu Prophecy which is something Angel has had on his mind for years but Spike just jumped on that bandwagon like 5 minutes before the fight.
