Who is your least favourite character from BTVS?

You're kidding, right? I don't like her character and her voice just grates on me.

No, I'm not kidding. Its fair to say that most around here don't seem to hate Cordy😉 Fair enough if she annoys you. She never has with me, only in the way she is meant too as a bitchy, imature character. I finf her entertaining and like her growth as a character up to S3 of Angel anyway.

Connor. Conner Conner Conner. How can You like him? It's just ridiculous to me how he never likes his own Father! I mean seriously, daddy issues is one thing, but c'mon man. Literally every episode where he is a big character, (except of course Orpheus) is a disaster. Season 4 of Angel would have been so much better if he wasn't in it. Season 5 was a good Connor season, but he had to literally be a different person!

*gasps* I love Connor. He was so traumatised by his childhood and his responses to everyone in S4 are fascinating to me, troubled and complex. He just needs more love, in-story and out. 😉

I only watched season 5 of Ats and connor is such a nice kid !

My least favorite character is eve. And the Guardian. What was she there for ?

I agree. She didn't really serve much of a purpose, but it would have been better if she was introduced in the beginning of S7 and was more fleshed out.

I love Dawn. Not ashamed. She's underrated. Not even that annoying. 😀

There are a few character sthat come to mind when one asks who the most hated character is... Such are Riley, Kennedy, Connor, etc., But it seems that the most universally hated is Dawn. I've even seen some call her the "Scrappy Doo" of Buffy.

I think what it is with dawn is that she has a lot of reasons not to like her and the reasons to dislike her far outnumber the reasons to like her. She could have been a good character if she was written better and I don't blame Michelle Trachtenberg for how Whedon made her... If anyone is to blame for Dawn's flaws, it's Whedon.

Speaking as someone who dislikes Dawn a lot, I'll say what most fans say about her, but I'll elaborate more and give credit where credit is due... Is she whiney and annoying? Absolutely. But in her defense, she does have a lot of reasons to be said way and kind of is justified.

She lost Joyce, Buffy, Tara, Giles, Anya, and then Willow went off the deep end and tried to destory the world... So shes lost so many familial figures, and to top it off, she, a typical 15 year old girl, finds out that she really isnt even a real person and that all her memories are fake and she probably wonders if she even has a soul and will experience an afterlife once her physical body dies... Also, the sheer awkwardness of being so young and potentially unwanted as a 15 year old among all the Scoobies, who are all in their twenties, must be really awkward and she probably feels like a baby among them. So yeah, she does have a lot of reasons to act the way she does. She's not completely unjustified, in her defense.

Another reason people really dislike her is Because her arrival essentially changed the memories of everyone and no one really remembers what truly happened in the first four seasons, which is really alarming and disappointing.

Also, Dawn being on the show made it so much more juvenile than it needed to be and essentially Buffy had to be her mom figure. Strapping Buffy down with a needy child was not a good way to run a show that was so phenomenal in it's first four seasons.

Would I have liked it better if Dawn jumped instead of Buffy at the end of season 5? Absolutely. I really dislike the direction of the show in seasons 6 and 7 and I think it would have been much better if it was done differently and Dawn was a one-season character. Many other fans share this view.

I will say though, she does show growth in season 7, but at that point, the show was really dragging on in a negative way and we had the nuisance of Kennedy to deal with...

Michelle Trachtenberg is a good actress and is a beautiful woman, but that doesn't change the way her character is. It's almost like Whedon and the writers wrote dawn in a way that they intended for the majority of the fandom to hate her.

I've never understood why Dawn is considered whiny and annoying, she has her moments but she barely annoys me at all 😀 I don't get it.
The only flaws I see in Dawn is that she was written as an immature girl in season 5 (what with her speech and the way Joyce and Buffy treat her) but then we have to keep in mind that Dawn was originally going to be about 10 before they changed Dawn's age to allow Michelle to take the role. The writers should have changed the script when they changed Dawn's age but still I don't hate Dawn for that, I just find it odd.

I dislike that as well, and I absolutely hate that it was never treated as a big thing, the scoobies were all mind raped by the monks but no notice is taken of that. But again that's not really Dawn's fault so I don't blame her.

I think that if Dawn was written into the show in a better manner, it would help her case immensely. What I mean is that she could have still been written into the show in a different manner than being this random "sister" who shows up from out of nowhere... The monks could have done something different like have hidden the key in a random human child who just happened to be Dawn and the magic could have somehow pulled Buffy towards her so that they would meet. I don't know... I'm imagining a scenario where Buffy for some reason feels the need to volunteer at an after school program or something for abused kids and Dawn happens to be there and they bond and it turns out that dawn is the key and Buffy discovers this... This would have been much better than making her Buffy's "sister." She probably would hqve acted a lot better and would get a lot less hate from fans.

That's a good idea, I guess the writers were a little too forceful with Dawn, they just had all the characters instantly know and love Dawn and expected the audience to do the same. It worked for me but a different way of introducing Dawn could have been better as you said 🙂

Dawn isn't universally hated. She was in the finals for the character tournament on this forum and she's very much loved on tumblr as well.

She does get too much hate though 🙂

She's also been in the top five of many lists of the most annoying and loathed characters on TV, including one by TV Guide. The hate she gets is astronomical.

I wouldn't say 'astronomical' but rather 'deserving'. There are a lot of people on this board who love Dawn and Dawn/Buffy. Even among pod casters it seems to be 50/50. I hate everything concerning Dawn which puts me in a minority on this board but not on others.
