Question Which of the Buffyverse proposed spin-offs you wish had been made?

Hello, cuties. It is known that a couple character spin-offs were announced or considered after Buffy and Angel were done: Faith, Spike, Giles/Ripper and the animated series.

Frankly, I resent that Eliza Dushku opted out of Faith to do Tru Calling (I'm sorry!). That's the one I really wish had moved forward. It's interesting how it sounds like Supernatural since she still would've been on the run from the cops while fighting evil throughout the USA. Supernatural really took over the place Buffy and Angel left.

Ripper was also interesting concept: "Cracker with ghosts", in the words of Anthony Head himself.

The Buffy animated series probably didn't have a place in the 2000s - back when streaming was not a thing.

Which project you wish had seen the light of day?
 
I would have been interested in a Faith spin-off- shocker, she's my favourite character 😄 but I would have liked her to be joined by Wesley- he's a great character played by a great actor and they had really interesting chemistry in season 4. I'd also like Connor to join them, as well as an original character for the show. Then similarly to Supernatural it would have a big cast of recurring characters.

I find it interesting that Ripper was apparently going to be produced by the BBC, I think that would have been a great choice because it would be authentically British which would make it feel different to Buffy and Angel.
 
The animated series and Ripper interest me the most.

Even though Faith’s one of my favourite characters, I wouldn’t have cared much for a Faith spin off. I thought differently in the past, but upon doing a rewatch of the Buffyverse in the last few years, I surmised she was best used in small doses on Buffy and Angel. We learnt little about her, but the mystery about her is part of what made her such a great character imo. That spin off sounds quite too similar in premise to The 1960s Fugitive tv series which I got into a few years ago toable to hold my interest now anyway.
 
Seriously, A-Team with Faith, or Renegade with Faith, or, let's be real, Supernatural with Faith are all fun ideas for a series. But, I really think the Buffy well was drawing to a close.

Ripper was probably the most important show, as it was supposed to be a trial run for a Doctor Who revival, and probably would have advanced Tony's career.

The worst was "Willow" which probably would have left AH unavailable to do HIMYM. For some reason, "Lesbian Witch looks for love in the big city," seems like a 90s series, not a 2000s series for an actress approaching 30.

The animated series would have been legendary. High School Buffy was always the most creative period of the show, it would have provided work for actors who clearly needed it.

Weren't there LGBT series in the 2000s?

I guess I would not mind a Spike or Ripper spinoff.

And we've all noticed British TV loves Buffy so much. From Doctor Who to Merlim. That should totally have been made.

There have been Buffy releases for younger audiences that I believe would work in animation for e.g.: Netflix, like The High School Years or New School Nightmare.

IIRC, LGBT television got really adult, really premium cable, really fast. But I was more concerned about the remaining cultural cache of "The Craft" in 2003.
 
I thought Spike and Faith had great chemistry in their basement scene, so I would have liked to see a buddy series for them. It could have guest-starred a lot of the other characters, too. Though it seems inevitable that Spike and Faith would have had to become a couple, and I'm not sure what Spuffys (or Fuffys) would have thought of that.

A Ripper series also sounds really promising, but would it have involved Anthony Head? I don't know what the series plans were, but to me it sounds like it would have been about Giles in his 20's or so, and would have required a younger actor.

I'm not sure about an animated series. We saw what happened in the comics when Whedon no longer had special-effect limitations - all monsters, all the time! It seems like animation might have gone down that road.
 
Ripper, to the best of my knowledge, would have involved Tony Head, to use him as an actor while he was back in the UK. His daughters were going to play his immortal great aunts. I don't think it was actually going to be about his time as Ripper, just middle aged Giles dealing with metaphors for loneliness. Apparently, most of the major story points went to Angel & Faith.

Eliza is on record (interview with IGN) that she felt she'd played the character enough and was looking for something new. I can see that, as she may have wanted to avoid being typecast.

Sorry but Faith had years of character buildup up to that point (of Chosen) compared to starting something brand new "Tru Calling" just for the sake of new- it's probably why the show didn't last... just like Dollhouse (although I loved Dollhouse); Faith deserved a spinoff and justice as a character. When you look back she wasn't in all that many episodes and she had barely any time devoted to her redemption. I hate that Supernatural has like 15 Seasons with lots of filler (even though we get 12 seasons between BtVS & Angel) when a Faith Spinoff could've given us at least 3 more seasons of the 'verse. It would've been cool if they had crossover in all of the seasons of Supernatural, like why has no Buffyverse character even cameo? 🙄

The animated series would've been (still would be) cool to add to the lore of the show like the Faith spinoff but adding to the beginning of the show which is tempting because Season 1 is so short and there feels like a lot more stories to be told in the setting. AND it could still be done whereas the Faith spinoff is much more unlikely because it's a lot harder to produce.

I resent the Faith spinoff not being made but at this point I'd rather see the animated series willed into existence anyway.
 
The Giles show sounds different enough to be interesting and new and fresh.

I would love a Faith spin off but the concept idea of a Dark Angel rip off with Ghost Spike and Principle Wood sounded bad.
 
And which season of Dark Angel? They were utterly different. Might as well have been different shows.

I doubt it. Tru Calling aired on a major network, whereas Faith would have aired on the future home of "Legends of Tomorrow," and would have had the same budget and production problems that Angel, Buffy, and quite frankly, Legends of Tomorrow did. She made the smart choice. Playing a character for less than two years is hardly played out.

I also think there would've been a bit of pressure on her if the show tanked. Following on after Buffy, those are big shoes to fill. That's probably another factor behind her decision.

Do we know if other cast members would've been on board to at least guest star if Faith's show had gone ahead?

Well, given the only person they could get to appear on Angel was Andrew...
I don't think a failed series would hurt her career. Dark Angel failed, but arguably, Jessica 3 had the best career of the Jessicas, and probably of any actress of her generation. Into the BLUE!

Wait, why would Buffyverse characters crossover with Supernatural? I guess Angel's team could make a cameo, but the Buffyverse vampires look different from other vampires.

Wonder how a live action Spike vs. Dracula series would have been received by audience members. Would be interesting to see a classic vampires vs. Buffyverse vampires battle. In the comics, Dracula and his sired look like normal vampires compared to the remainder of Buffy vampires.
