Where is everyone from?

Don't you just love how people describe or not describe where they are from. The English folk are better at it though. I mean saying rural Warwickshire is a bit er, even the city of Birmingham is quite rural having more trees than any other city.
And the member who said she is from a little village, really? All villages are little at least they were.
How about the village of Bilton in Warwickshire? The nearby town of Rugby kept getting bigger until one day it joined the boundary of the village.
So how about some more info other than just West Midlands because Eastern Wales touches on West Midlands. I've often said I'm from Coventry, though now I'll be a bit more specific, my birth place is near car factories and railway yards helpful huh? 'course that was 71 years ago, tee hee.

Oh and by the way, welcome to the land of Buffy where us good guys are.

I come from the wild west of the land down under.

I found a mutton bustin vid (short) worth sharing!

I'm sharing because it's one of the things that seems to surprise people about Texas (though it's done in some other states as well). Still, I wanted to keep it short.
We do this here too, I rekon it is hilarious! All kids should have to do these sort of character building rites of passage.
I saw this reel a while ago, on a similar note.

Its a real different life coming from a place with a lot of space.

I like the names of the cities in USA and UK, here in Holland they are not so creative
Yea the world has weird place names... I actually created a thread for that ablong time ago and if you read this, you will knowbwhere i am from. Link to entire thread is below my old post i swear i am not from the land of look behind...
(I wrote🙂
I figured we were all overdue for some mindless humour and fun.

So... as inspired (to me anyway) by another thread...

Please share your weird, rude, funny or just unusual place names here. If possible share pictures, fun information, webpages, etc.

I grew up in the Caribbean and they're very good at oddness in the naming department. This is probably why I like different names and weird naming conventions.
Roll Eyes
That's my story and it's sticking to me.

Probably my favorite of all time is not in Jamaica, however... Actually, it almost made me run off the road the first time I saw the sign: Beaver Ruin Road, Georgia. Because my mind only works the one way.

This makes me think that Jamaicans aren't the only literal ones... Alcohol and Drug Abuse Lake. Hope that's not an aspiration!
Alcohol and Drug Abuse Lake - Wikipedia

For those of us with Buffy leanings: Hell Gate is a narrow tidal strait in the East River in New York City. We knew there had to be a few more right? I bet there are more...

Jamaica has many, many, many weird names. Some are so common I don't even think of them as weird anymore.

A random selection includes: Alligator Pond (with no alligators!), Devil's Racecourse, Maggoty, Red Gal Ring, Above Rocks and Bog Walk. Half-Way-Tree, Wag Water River... and Yu-No-Call-Mi-Mi-No-Come.

Jamaica also has lots of places named for mile markers... 6 mile, 9 mile, 11 mile... for some reason... and duplicates of course, 9 in particular, b/c there's more than one 9 mile marker, of course. Mostly, it's one per parish, but Jamaica has 14 of those. There are places named for... ghosts (Duppies), vultures (John Crows) and all sorts of animals including roaches and mosquitoes.

Yes, in my number one home country, AKA J.A., there are lots of names that are oddly literal (and yes, some are rather off-putting), some that are rude, and some that are downright confusing. Some are in foreign languages and a few are probably bastardizations of foreign languages. The Caribbean is a rich place for peculiar and weird names, but Jamaica is what I know best. Probably at least in part because most islands have had cross-pollination from several different cultures and languages. And each island has its own idiosyncratic language (ways mostly of speaking some version of 'English' patois.)

Funniest Jamaican Place Names!

As I said in the original thread: Yes, they are real. I have been to some of them. We Jamaicans are strangely literal... so some of the names... are very 'experiential'. We are also a bit... crude.
Cool
Shocked

Sheepshead Bay. I remember my parents taking me to Brighton Beach all the time in the summer. I had a godmother that lived in Flathbush.

If I remember correctly there was a seafood restaurant in Sheepshead called Lundy's that was pretty popular.
My uncle had a small grocery store in Flatbush for a while. Small world!!
