Question What was Kennedys purpose to the story?

Kennedy was there so the writers could say 'See? Willow's still gay!! She's still gay y'all, so we're not gay-hating on Tara when we killed her off. See?'
...
'What do you mean you don't like her?'

The writers have basically admitted this. Kennedy was there to reassure everyone that Willow was still 'gay now'.
 
I so hate Kennedy for her being so bossy & thinking since she seduced Willow she was special. One of the main things is we see Willow follow Kennedy around . Plus it took a long time for Willow to do anything with Tara but it seemed like right after she met Kennedy she was kissing . I know she was to show Willie was still gay but she was so unlike the people Willow had been with before. It was almost like they were mocking us with Kennedy.
 
Kennedy was just awful. She was spoiled, self-entitled, why did the writers think people would like her? Why did they think Willow wouldn't be seen as gay unless she was dating another woman? It's not something that gets turned on and off, the writers should give the audience more credit than that.

The biggest problem with Kennedy is that she never gets called out on her actions. She throws her weight around, she has a go at Willow for not taking her side over Buffy's, she bullies a younger potential, why did none of the scoobies ever step up and go "you're out of order. Now sit down and shut up!"?

If Buffy told off Kennedy, people would be like, "See what a bitch Buffy is being? She's bullying a Potential! Does she expect everyone to kiss her ass?"
Just another symptom of the writing of season 7, when I think the writers were just churning out scripts for the pay rather than any affection for the show or its fans, and gave us many WTF characters and character moments.

That line is very revealing about Kennedy's intentions though. "You're not even listening. I thought things would change but you keep shutting me down."

So Kennedy initiated the vote to depose Buffy all so she could get a bigger say? What a conniving self-entitled bitch.

"What was Kennedy's purpose in Season 7?"

I think the majority of "Buffy" fans have been asking that same question ever since the Season first aired, and we haven't come up with a workable answer yet. I don't think that Willow needed a love interest that quickly after Tara's death. If anything, Kennedy seemed to cheapen Twillow in my opinion, making it appear that Willow just couldn't function without a girlfriend.

The closest that I can come to any real purpose for the character is that, whether intentionally or not, Kennedy managed to take up the slack that brat Dawn left behind, but she was, at best, a poor substitute for the real thing.
 
My opinion : Joss just wanted a relationship which doesn't end badly. Because Spike/Buffy, he dies ! Alex/Anya, he left her before the wedding and of course she dies. At the end of the series everyone are alone except Willow !

He should have stuck to relationships that end badly. He was much better at that. Not to mention Willow and Kennedy is the only one I ever wanted to end badly.
 
I think that they only brought her in so that Willow would have a girlfriend, Fred and Willow would have been more interesting to watch...

I never understood that scene.

Buffy said as much in Get It Done "Now I'm the leader as in do what I say" and everyone thought she was being horrible (got called "bitch" "thunder ****" "ice queen" "evil witch") and acting superior but everyone cheers Faith for saying she's not one of them and shutting down Kennedy.

That scene happened post-Buffy getting kicked out the house, really Kennedy being told to shut up needed to happen a lot sooner. Kennedy initiated the coup because she wanted a bigger say and thought Faith would give her it, she says as much "I thought things would change but you keep shutting me down."
 
I think that Kennedy was going out with Willow just so she could have power . No other reason . And I know that if Buffy had been gay Kennedy would have gone after her for the same reason she went after Willow . So she would have been in charge .

I can see it in my mind .
Buffy : We need to do it this way " she says firmly .
Kennedy : You want me to tell everyone that ? " she says breathing in Buffy ear .
Buffy : What ever you say " she says caving into Kennedy orders .

I despise Kennedy. In a fight between Caleb and Kennedy, I'm rooting for Caleb. I hate the way Kennedy pursues Willow and won't take no for an answer. Willow clearly wasn't ready to move on yet Kennedy still kept going at it until Willow eventually gave in. I hate the way Kennedy is suddenly included in Scooby meetings and put in charge of training the potentials, especially when she was a bully to Chloe who then committed suicide. Kennedy seems to think she can just come in and decide what Willow does.

I hate Kennedy. I wish she'd been one of the potentials to die, that would've been the highlight of the season for me.

Kennedy was the only potential who actually relished the idea of being a slayer. Having managed employees who begged for a job then turned in a lackluster performance, I fully appreciate someone who is dedicated to the mission. When Willow was transformed erratically into Warren by Amy's spell, she stuck with Willow where the other potentials (and probably the scoobies) would have run off screaming. She did break through Willow's shell of grief and by allowing Willow two seconds where she forgot her grief, she allowed Willow to move on.

This last part is important. When we moved into an apartment after we were married in 1974, the woman next door was a 75 year-old woman who lived alone and had never married. We talked about it one time when we invited her over and she recounted how she had a true love who had gone off to WWI and had never returned. He was the one she pined over for the rest of her life. And she was still attractive - she could have had men all her life. When I think of Willow I think of her and how two seconds spent by Kennedy avoided a lifetime like this for Willow.

Kennedy is one of the good people even though we see her as doing things that are uncomfortable for Willow.

Some people do have a true love that they never get over, that doesn't make them wrong for not finding love with someone else.

Kennedy was just awful. The season would've been better without her in it. If the writers had wanted Willow to be in a relationship, they should've had her hook up with Fred.

The main issue with Kennedy is her personality. She is extremely abrasive and shows no redeeming qualities. I wish she'd got eaten by Gnarl.

That was what I felt too myself . Even if you wanted Willow to move on I don't think a bully /brat like Kennedy doing it wax the right choice .
The only reason Kennedy was with Willow was self interest . She shows up in a war zone & forces Willow to go out with her . That a really selfish strp fot her & the scene where Faith slaps her down you hear her say she thought would listen " do what I said " .
 
I would have hated Fred and Will. It would have made Willow boring. Kennedy had spunk and she had a good heart. If we had lost Will to an AtS character, I would have thrown a tantrum.
