In a way we do have boy-Dawn... Connor. On a different show sure, but he gives us an idea of what a Joss-imagined, supernaturally created, angsty teen boy is like.

The key thing is that Connor was cool when David was doing him, when Joss took over he became the mess that he was.

And definitely a boy wouldn't have been as whiny as Dawn in season 5.
