Not currently watching this, but I hate watched Anne with an E in it's entirety when as it came out. I read all the Anne of Green Gables books as a kid, and watched the movies starring Megan Follows, so they are incredibly dear to me.
I hated the series, as the first episode was basically line for line the book, then by the end of that very same episode they had already veered so far away from the source material that you could barely call it an AoGG adaptation. They try to adress all the modern issues they could possibly cram into it. All the characters are really 1 dimentional, all the characters we are suppose like are perfect, they aren't Racist, homophobic, sexist, etc. but all the characters we are supposed to hate are. To be fair, I was a little old for it (I was in my late teens, it was made for preteens/young teens) but still.
It completely ignored the fact that AoGG was supposed to be a lovely, charming look at growing up and the little beauties of life etc. and instead made it into just a super feminist show about how this one girl is super perfect and "ahead of her time" because she, again, isn't racist, sexist or homophobic. Not a bad message, just don't call your main character Anne and we won't have a problem. Just stop breaking my toys, okay?
Gosh dang though, it was really pretty, and lighthearted enough to be mindlessly fun. It is the only show I am ashamed to say I willingly watched start to finish.
