Hey y'all! So I have debating for a bit whether or not to give Dollhouse a watch, mostly for Eliza as I really love her and would like to see more of her work. Would you recommend the show?

I tried but gave up after a couple of episodes. Honestly it was boring and disturbing at the same time

I've watched it twice, and my misgivings over it aren't really going away. I adore Eliza on Buffy (particularly season 3, one of the most natural fits for a character ever), but she did not seem particularly fitted to her role(s) on Dollhouse, and it would have challenged the most versatile actress in the world.

Enver Gjokaj was sensational when mimicking Fran Kranz (who did as well playing the unpopular Topher as could be expected), and Michelle Williams also impressed. But it felt too squashed in to too limited a number of episodes - the jump into the future, Fringe-style, happened too quickly, and it doesn't play to Whedon's strengths with character development or sympathies.

Watching Firefly is a no brainer, best short running show of all time. As for Serenity, it is sad, but its still watchable. Its a bit like watching Season 7 of Buffy compared to the earlier seasons. Farscape is another good show, and it does have a touch of Whedon's style about it, doesn't take itself too seriously.

As for Dollhouse, personally I like it, and I think it does have some interesting things to say. And it has Eliza Dushku, so there's that. And Amy Acker and Alexis Denisof. Watch it if you don't mind a show you have to think about a little. But don't expect something as good as Buffy or Firefly.

I watched all of Dollhouse and I thought it was great. But if you are a fan of Eliza Dushku, you have to understand that she downloads a new personality and capabilities with every episode, so you don't get the idea of a person who has a specific personality and character, it changes every week. But whereas the programming that starts with each episode is supposed to wipe the character from the previous episodes, some of it is retained and you begin to see Eliza as having certain character values and capabilities that cannot be erased. Brilliantly done but not immediately obvious.
