Stranger Things 5 - 8/10

MASH Season 5 - 9/10

This was the season that sold me on the Hunnicutt, the episode with him and the Nurse is really moving. It has some of my favourite episodes so far, the Movie Night one and Margaret’s wedding.

Starfleet Academy S1E1 - solid premiere. Like the new cadets. Holly Hunter is great (per usual) as Captain Ake.
The (holo) Dr is back! Looks like Paul Giamati is going to be season villain.
Guess they're going to have some other past show cameos. Look forward to those.
A Klingon pacifist? Didn't know they even existed! One of the more interesting concepts.
Cadet Genesis Lythe is probably my early on favorite. Gotta 🧡 that sass!

Genesis is probably my favourite of the Cadets so far too
Bolded are the overall ratings, italics is the original rating before S5 'tied everything together'.

Stranger Things S1: (8.5/10) 8/10 Overall a strong start, plucky kids, a desperate Mom looking for her lost boy and slovenly but determined and heroic local cop, a secret government lab and a kid with magical powers, this season hits a lot of strong notes and keeps the plot strands all running smoothly.

Stranger Things S2 (7/10) 6/10 A somewhat disappointing retread of the previous season, but at least at this point the characters seem to be progressing TO somewhere. On the downside the writers show that they care a lot about what Redditors complain about, which will become more apparent as the season continues, warping and changing as it does so.

Stranger Things S3 (5/10) 4.5/10 The clown season. With comically inept Rooskies somehow managing to build a secret science lab under a mall coupled with the disappointing Mind-Flayer monster. A lot of our heroes seem flat or just plain out of character and lazy writing underpins much of this seasons events/problems.

Stranger Things S4 (8/10) 5/10 A strong recovery from the clownish previous season with a return to a more serious tone and to its horror roots and with a strong 'new' villain and some new dynamic characters. The plot threads seemed much more disparate than before but, again, we're building towards something. The show seems to be going somewhere (it isn't).
There was a feeling of stakes with Max's impending fate and a compelling new mystery. Still, the satanic panic plot doesn't really go anywhere and is forgotten almost completely after this season. And a lot of the good this season is completely undone

Stranger Things S5 Overall 4/10 There's fluffing the landing completely and then there's retroactively damaging all of what came before by simultaneously over-explaining some things and not explaining others. The worldbuilding here is catastrophic, the plotting is sluggish, the effects are mostly overdone and awful. Too many characters, too little characterization, some characters stay dynamic, some devolve into shallow (and tired) tropes. Morally bankrupt decisions by our heroes and stupid decisions by the all-powerful Vecna makes it hard to care even about the complete lack of stakes. The 'epic climax' is almost embarrassingly easy and the epilogue self-indulgent and disappointing.
When many fans of the show say 'nah,. this wasn't the real ending, was it?' you know the writers done effed up completely. The behind-the-scenes doc was just the crappy icing on this overdone clown cake.

Blackshore Series 1 - 6/10

Solid, but pretty typical gritty Irish crime show. The lead was good.

Paradise Season 1 - 8.5/10

Definitely goes into my top ten of last year. A nice reminder whan an underrated actress Julianne Nicholson, she plays a very different role than in other stuff. A unique well executed premise, with suspense and smart twists. Look forward to what they come up with in S2.

heard good things but trailers really seemed to focus on one thing which didn't seem that interesting?
The trailer just showed the main character being a suspect in presidents death. No mention of bunkers of post apocalyptic stuff.
Not sure if that makes it more or less interesting?

Maybe because they see that as a bit or a spoiler but you’re right if it was just that it would feel like a very different show. Only 8 episode season so maybe worth trying the first 2-3.
The Night Manager Series 2 - 8/10

A very strong follow up season with great tense scenes and clever twists, the finale doesn’t play out exactly how you’d expect either. Also the cameos from S1 were well used, they didn’t outstay their welcomes but had a part to play.

I'm enjoying series 2 a lot 👍
I'm currently watching Small Prophets a marvellous BBC comedy from Mackenzie Crook (Detectorists, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Office (UK version)). It's a warm, human, lovely sitcom with great characters and a marvellous story. If you liked Detectorists you will love Small Prophets - it has the same feel but with a supernatural element, rather than metal detectors. It's full of heart and humanity and has some wonderful gags. It stars Pearce Quigley, who was also in Detectorists. Lauren Patel and Michael Palin, with Mackenzie himself in a smaller role. Practically perfect in every way, for me it's the televisual equivalent of reading a Terry Pratchett book, which as anyone who knows me will remember, is the highest praise I could give. 10/10

It: Welcome to Derry Season 1 - 7.5/10

The finale was a bit of a CGI fest with too much going on, but it was certainly memorable. Which is a good way to sum up the show even with some of flaws, it’s rarely dull. Surprisingly watchable, with likeable characters. I’m down for more 😊

Dexter Season 2 - 7/10.

Mostly an enjoyable follow up season, but Lalia was a grating and pointless character, could have taken her out of the season and not lost anything.

Started Rizzoli and isles out of boredom since its now on Netflix. Kinda old school cop show. 2 female leads have palpable chemistry. Infamously unofficially LGBT. 😉

Yeah, they are the gayest "straight" best friends ever. There are gay couples who are straighter. :D
Dexter S4 - 8/10

StarFleet Academy S1 - 7/10

Overall a strong first season, even some of the middling episodes were solid, the lead cast of characters were likeable, and the cameos were well handled. Sadly the finale really wiffed it! It was such a big anticlimax which wasted a lot of the potential set up going into it. The final episode took no risks, and suddenly became very generic which the show hadn't really been up to that point. The lead villain's plan didn't make a lot of sense by the end, and it all got wrapped up way too neat and tidy, with some right grand standing and too many big speeches. Reno was the finale's MVP. I recommend the season as a whole.

glad you liked it. Gotta get back into it. Seems like few reviewers I've seen weren't too keen on it
