Michelle Trachtenberg's Appearance Concerns Fans

Well for anyone who's not keeping up, people are expressing concern about the way Michelle has been looking lately and she is adamant that everyone is just a hater.

Some people think she's had plastic surgery (buccal fat removal) and some think she looks ill. Others believe she is perfectly fine and it's just because of her nearing 40.

Figured I'd bring the discussion to Buffy Boards and see everyone's input here.

I rarely use Instagram so I had not seen her in a while until these discussions started popping up on my Reddit feed. I definitely notice a difference. A lot of people have not only pointed out the hollow cheeks (which could simply be buccal fat removal, not illness) but that her scleras are yellow and her hair appears to be thinning. That is definitely concerning to me. But Michelle insists she's fine. 🤷‍♀️ well I sincerely hope she's right and that she is 100% fine.

Hope no one here calls me a hater. I'm just curious on everyone else's opinion.

Shes slimmer, and that happens naturally when there is weight loss. That last picture is beautiful, what an elegant women she has become in comparison to the baby teen she was.


Aging well 🙂 its nice she hasnt given in to the hollywood norm of surgeries etc etc. Has she got any upcoming roles? She looks stunning in that make up free selfie a little way down her Instagram. With age comes health issues, no one can escape it as much as they protest, I hope she is well and its nice shes still sharing with fans.

A lot of things go into beauty photography, from lighting and angle to makeup and pose. She doesn't look unhealthy. People really need to remember that people age. She's not a child anymore!

I think when some people see celebrities looking thin they imagine the worst - like theyre dying or have an eating disorder.

I for instance often experience a drop of weight when i get gastritis flare ups - and i struggle to compensate for the calories i usually get from fattier foods.

I actually thought her weight was going up last photo i saw - good to see shes still slim.

She was on one episode of NCIS Los Angeles where she was a bit hefty and in the 20th anniversary photoshoot, she also looked to be a bit heavy. It appears she is trying to correct that and hopefully she gets all the nutrition she needs as she starts reducing her weight. I don't see anything unhealthy about how she looks now. She is aging and it happens to everyone who stays alive. The main thing in these pictures is she is smiling a bit more in the younger pictures and this makes her younger pictures look more attractive.

From what I saw most people were just expressing concern about her health and then Michelle and some people reacred as if people were saying she's old or ugly (I didn't see many comments like that). So I think that behaviour is pretty odd and then Michelle made that post above responding to it, deleted it, and posted basically the same thing the next day.

Although the other day someone said to me " you look healthy" and I immediately reacted with "is that a polite way of calling me fat?"
So yeah, reactions can be odd when someone comments on appearances.

I wouldn't say any of my post to her face lol, I wonder how many of her insta commenters would?

I think that a lot of Hollywood stars look unhealthy & way too thin. Hollywood still has an image of the female body that is grotesque & lots of actresses are pressured to meet that image or find other employment.

What concerns me about MT is the cheekbones. They make her face look emaciated. And having 'diamond cutting' cheekbones is one of the grotesque Hollywood beauty standards actresses are forced to achieve. I have no idea if she is actually healthy or not, but, I do have concerns.

I think her response, calling people 'haters', shows how much pressure MT has been under, probably since she was a teenager, to meet rediclulous body image standards. Poor girl.

That is true I just feel like a lot of the comments were trying to carefully word their concerns so Michelle could have also more carefully phrased her response, and if the comments are truly bothering her she has the option to post privately and it's probably better for her own mental heath that she does that instead of having to make a lot of posts and stories saying 'haters are gonna hate, hate, hate', because that won't stop the comments anyway.

Classically trained dancers have been freaking out about visibly aging since highschool, so it is cause for concern. I mean, you get yelled at by a hateful Russian vampire who psychically feeds off the insecurities of girls with rich parents for several years of your adolescence, you'd stay thin too.

She's probably using Ozempic to slim down, like a lot of celebrities have been doing. And it looks like she's been using high doses. The yellowish scleras could be related to a problem with her liver which can happen if you take too much medicine. The thinning hair is also a symptom of malnourishment; it's obvious that she's not eating enough.

DarkLordsHaunt Well google is a wonderful thing. Buccal fat removal is basically a cosmetic surgery to take the fat out of your cheeks to achieve a slimmer face appearance. The sclera is the whites of the eyes.

Yeah she just might start doing that. I wonder what all the concerned fans will think then? Actually, that might be entertaining if she just disappears off the net 😆 the theories will be wild!

It does feel hateful, to me, to say put up with all judgements and criticisms or get lost. But then again, I've been on the receiving end of that (on a much smaller scale).

But realistically she does have to put up with the judgement and criticism if she wants to post publicly to a large audience because any statement she makes isn't going to stop people commenting what she considers hate. So the only solution is to stop posting publicly or ignore it.

Her job requires a public face. It'd be good if she could turn off comments. It would close the option for fans to have a say on her personal page at all, rather than have her nick off and shut up.

It's funny, because I just saw her IG post yesterday and was thinking the same thing.

She definitely looks underweight. But that could be due to a variety of reasons. We shouldn't just assume it's an eating disorder, as it could be due to illness or a side effect of a medication she is taking.

I hope she's okay.

I don’t think anyone should be cruel or nasty. But if you are an actor you have to expect people to comment on your appearance.
Most actors male or female rely on their looks to some degree. If you look at the cast of Angel and Buffy not many people are going to think that’s a really ugly crowd of people.

So if you use your looks to further your career you cant then get upset if people talk about them. It would be like a sportsman turning up to training 2 stone overweight and then getting upset if anyone mentions it.

Even with character actors who may not be considered conventionally handsome the casting director is usually looking for a certain look.
Which reminds me of a story John McGinlay told where the casting director advertised for a John McGinlay type so he though he would he a shoe in for it, but he didn’t get the role 🙂
