Were Spike and Angel ever family? Angel had a thing for Spike, but Spike was infatuated with Dru. Angel put Spike in his place by ****ing Dru in front of him. I think it was only Dru - and maybe Darla - that cared about the family. Spike only cared about Dru, and Angel cared for nobody. It's a familial love. Like the love divorced people might have for each other, they're still family and they care deeply and they hate each other at times because of the history.
For Me They're Lovers. Joss put so much sexual tension. If Angel cared for nobody he wouldn't have stayed with them at all surely. I think it was clear Angel did have a strong connection with Darla and wanted to return to her even when souled (accepting that this was a troubled/difficult time for him at that stage). He felt some sense of 'familial bond' to Dru and Spike too I think. Otherwise, when Spike was causing so much trouble as a young vampire they wouldn't have tolerated it at all and all stuck together. I'm not sure how much Angel would directly put himself out for any of them necessarily, it would probably very much depend on circumstances and competing priorities, but he hasn't dusted Dru all the times he has come across her, he did go through the trials to try and save Darla and I think he and Spike came to gain some respect on a different level for each other once they were both souled.
But my answer to the question would be a no. Angel and Spike come across as feuding siblings to me. There is a familial loyalty there but it is often overshadowed by competitive rivalry and I'm not sure they often actually like each other much in truth. They didn't spend a very large portion of their vampiric lives together but it is always played as being significant to them in the way that they respond to each other. Very much like siblings, they have got to know some of each other's foibles but often make poor assumptions about the other and show that they don't know each other personally very well. They both often project their own issues and insecurities on the other too and I think a lot of these failings are because they both keep their guards up around the other a lot of the time. It just limits how well they know each other so they don't have a great personal bond I don't think, even if they do care about what happens to the other in a general way. I wouldn't say they 'love' each other even as friends and it certainly isn't romantic at all to my eye, but it is a very interesting relationship. 😀

I really don't see anything sexual between Angel and Spike, they're more like brothers :/
Seriously. Though I wouldn't even go that far.I really don't see anything sexual between Angel and Spike, they're more like brothers :/
Let's face it - BtVS and the Buffy Boards have become a homing beacon for the gay and lesbian community since it was one of the first shows with a lesbian couple and fans tend to imagine and ship gay and lesbian romances between all kinds of unlikely couples,
The first OPENLY gay couple, maybe, and I'm pretty sure that the term "ship" wasn't in use at the time, but there were Kirk/Spock shippers from halfway through the first Season, and then there was the Batman/Robin (Adam West and Burt Ward) and the characters on a whole bunch of other "buddy" shows from the 70's and 80's were speculated on as well. People have been speculating on these kind of relationships for a long, long time.
As for Angel/Spike, I guess that's not any different from Buffy/Faith, and that's very popular. Whatever floats your boat, or, in this case, ship, seems to be okay with most folks.
