If buffy was made today what would be different

If buffy was made today other than technology what else would be different.

I think it would be bit more gory and scary and bit more sexual and also have more confusing family lines. As all these current shows nowadays seem to do that

No spoilers as on season 3
 
If it were made today I don't think they would have had Buffy die.

I don’t think Xander himself would necessarily have to change but I think people’s reactions to him would. No simply eye rolling shrugging ‘oh boys will be boys’ there’d be more acknowledgement when he’s being a d***

Characters being less uptight about sex. Like almost every main character in the whole verse is insanely uptight about sex. Casual sex is pretty much always used to show that they’re either a user or a form of self loathing - sometimes even both! Like casual sex really doesn’t have to be ‘dark’.
Sometimes it feels like the mains need to chill out when it comes to sex and having to be in super serious relationships and getting lectured if they aren’t ready for the relationship to be serious. Except you Angel, you need to keep that soul intact

Just to snowball on the last one I’m reasonably certain there’d be a Buffy/Faith fling/relationship if it was made today

Totally agree on the trash 'boys will be boys' stuff, it's one of the few things that really feels dated on the show.
Xander would be canceled and be a overall less popular character. the Vampires and CGI dusting would be way more realistic. Probably like The thanos snap. Willow would dress like a E-Girl. Faith would curse and be a lot more provocative 😣just cuz I feel Joss would write her like that if he could get away with it
 
If the planned reboot was anything to go by, Buffy would be black.

I think they would also make Buffy a lesbian and just have Willow be the "ugly duckling" best friend who is actually really pretty once she takes her glasses off and dresses up a little bit (such an annoying trope that Hollywood loves).

Buffy would probably be a bit of a Mary-Sue that changes bad boy Angel/Spike's ways with her love if she's not a lesbian. If she is then Faith will be the bad girl who has her ways changed by Buffy after opening Buffy's eyes to new horizons. It would be as cliche as hell.

Xander would either get killed off or, as the object of Willow's affection, realise at the end of the series what was in front of him the entire time once she's glammed up a bit.

Giles would be a woman because you can't have an adult man hanging around with underage girls or he'd be "non-binary" or whatever made up gender is flavour of the month.

Riley would be a woman. Buffy might be bisexual so that they can really play up a love triangle.

Dawn would be just awful because of what they'd turn her into.

Joyce would either be super supportive of a lesbian Buffy or would absolutely hate her guts but Buffy's minor status (at least in the early seasons) would prevent her from leaving.

Whedon would not be involved.

Episodes would lecture the audience on issues (like what Doctor Who does ever since Chibnall took over).

There would be no women or POC or LGBT in The Watchers Council, it would be exclusively made up of straight white men to represent "straight white male privilege".

Kennedy would get a bigger role and become an official scooby.

Xander would be treated as a damsel in distress that needs saving every week.

Aint gonna lie. Some of that sounds really good!
 
Riverdale with fangs.

Vampires would be teen (or apparently so), but other than that about the same, save Spike become obsessed with Buffy as a love interest all the sooner with Dru either gone or out to kill Buffy (but I expect she'd be more like Harmony at Wolfram & Hart rather than as on the original show). They could be far worse than Xander and be loved (like Spike was), since being a vampire will also mean having tight abs and butt along with passing for high school (at least as much as any TV teen passes for high school).

The principal would be worse than Snyder with a misogynist slant emphasized. Neither Flutie nor Robin Wood would show up in it (at least as a principal, but possibly as a teacher in a single ep).

Buffy would have a much more negative attitude, though she'd also be right about everything with no need to grow as a character (other than to become even more angry).

The dialog would be more groan worthy than clever, though the sheer insanity of the show might make up for it.
 
One of the Scoobies would be non binary. Probably Willow. Cordelia would be black, (she was originally supposed to be but the network was sniffy about inter racial dating).

There would be transgender vampires, Faith would be pansexual, and Darla and Drusilla would be a couple.

This would be intriguing. When I saw a FMV of these two with no knowledge about their AtS storylines, I thought there was some sexual tension going on between them and got disappointed when I learnt that it wasn't the case.
 
I get the feeling you lot would like Joss to be more critical than he was (abusive much?).
The first watchers were of a coloured skin as were the first Slayers, when did they change? In the new version they don't change but lets have the vampires demons etc: all be white skinned. (What colour skin would a coloured vampire have?)
Xander's personality could be as he became when he was a supervisor on the building sites. Faith'd be more of an exhibitionist, Cordy would have the same attitude but dress like a Pilgrim. Willow would be a very good Bi be open about it and be loved by everyone (no change there) so no Tara!
If possible I'd have a Giles character that is a vampire.
Oh yeah and a gorgeous new Darla, yup.
New script, new directors, a nice new town and a yummy big cemetery for all them night scenes.
