The funny thing is Xander had spent a lot of time putting Cordelia down & then goes out with her 🙄

There was a lot of sexual tension building up in the years they've known each other. It was until Buffy showed up that they've gotten more comfortable with the idea of going out.

IT was thanks to Buffy I believe . They both started hanging out with Buffy & then since Buffy didn't want to date either of them started getting closer before they started going out with each other .
 
One of the few episodes that I remember for feeling extremely cheap and low-budget.

The idea of Slayerfest is pretty nifty, a la The Most Dangerous Game, but it’s disappointing that it’s just 3 groups and that none of them are all that memorable, really. Would’ve made for a cool season-long storyline to have someone declare an open season competition on the Slayer.

Cheap? It didn't look that cheap to me? The standard of S3 effects is a pretty big step up from the first 2 seasons. I do agree that Slayerfest 98 could have been an on-going thing at least while I was on the show 😉 . They could even do a Game Show with old Tricky hosting it😀
 
The part i really liked was when Cordella buffed her way out of being attacked . Cordy rocks 😎

Just watched this tonight.

The scene in Willows room between Xander and Willow when they're getting dressed for the Homecoming dance is actually really sweet. Though the chemistry feels forced, they both express some real vulnerability in these scene that I find endearing.

I also love what Faith says to Scott to sabotage his date. Faith, at this point anyways, has Buffy's back.

I just watched this again and really liked it. I caught something new as well. Early on when Buffy confronts Cordelia for not telling her about school pictures Buffy says "you have no idea who you're messing with." Cordy replies, with "What, the Slayer?" (Words to that effect.)

It comes around beautifully when Cordelia bluffs Gorch. It's subtle, but I do feel like it's a callback to their earlier words. Things like that help these episodes feel really well written. I'm sure it was a hard job but I imagine the writers had some fun back then writing these eps.

I planned to watch just a few scenes to refresh my memory on specifics and ended up rewatching the entire ep. 🙂
