In “Smashed,” when Buffy and Spike are fighting and bringing down the house, before she kisses him and cuts him off, Spike says “Are you afraid I’m going to -

What do you think the test of the sentence was?

I am not sure. My immediate thoughts when I read your post were "Kill You" and then "Rape You", but, I have seen the rest of the season. I have no recollection what my thoughts were in 2002.

Spike conflates Death & Sex so I could see him threatening either.

So..... my pretty ambiguious answer is "All Of The Above (or Below, depending on what everyone else comes up with)".

Great answer. I believe he was going to say “kill you” but “rape you” is also a very plausible option.
Spike was taunting her about being in love with her, which he knew made her mad (or so he thought). The way the dialogue was going, I think he was going to say something like, "Afraid I'm gonna break your heart?"

Oh! I hadn’t thought of this at all. THAT would have been interesting.

If only he had just broken her heart instead of her and her will.

Tbh never really thought about it, just baffled as to what he was doing. Any other outcome other than the one that happens and basically he ends up dead.
- He loses (a distinct possibility) and he's dust.
- A draw or Buffy gets away then he's eventual dust, he won't be allowed to keep on existing as an active threat again.
- He wins and kills her so her remaining friends/allies - who he is incapable of fighting off- hunt him down and kill him.

Lmao! Good points all around. I don't think Spike was the brighest planner.

Would it matter? Look at all the awful stuff he'd done (even after being chipped). He was immune. Teflon Spike. 😂

Even their thin veneer of woolly-headed denial would be stripped away by the fact that murder-y Big Bad Spike could now hurt one of their own. It was only Buffy's abject shame and self-loathing that kept her from revealing that little fact to everyone else.
And that wouldn't have been the case if she had managed to escape his assault/latest murder attempt and gotten back to her friends. Hell, I think Xander would've been first in line with a stake ready.

Xander would use any small excuse to get stake happy, for Angel or for Spike wouldn't he? 😉
Well actually, he was ready at the Magic Box to decapitate him after seeing him with Anya, and would've done so if it weren't for Spike's quick reflexes.

some ppl act like xander is only some kind of hero. he was, but he was also devious, he blackmailed Amy once. xander is one mixed bag of carrots like the rest of 'em.

Well..... Given what he has done, Spike richly deserved dusting all the way back in Lovers Walk or Primeval at the very latest. So I don't blame S6 Xander for wanting to kill Spike even if some of Xander's reasons stink. But, no one was going to break thru Spike's popularity armor so it is all moot.

Amy time anyone considered killing Spike, they were totally justified, even if their reasons were dubious!
