Honestly. I don’t want to be super negative-because when Boom bought the rights to Buffy I was super excited. They’ve done amazing work with the MMPR comics and I expected great things.

The way that they have handled this series is appalling. Not everything has to be for everyone, and with ‘ship wars’ there are going to be things that just aren’t for you.

In the first issue main series they teased that Buffy and Angel had got married, but that he had disappeared. (This obviously hooks in the BAngel crowd and gets them excited) . In the next issue it’s revealed ‘he just left again….because that’s just what Angel does.’ From there it descends into a Spuffy fanfic comic. Annoying, felt very baited-my favourite character was horribly mischaracterised once again to prop up Spike but whatever.

Months go by, forgot about it (becuase ultimately it just wasn’t a good story.)

Then I see this synopsis being shared EVERYWHERE by Boom, the writer, the artist etc. ‘it’s been 4 years Buffy, Angel & Thess have been living together as a family’. Obviously I got excited, bought it. Angel isn’t in it at all-it’s Buffy &Spike. It’s another Spuffy book. I hate ship wars, I hate two sides of the fandom being played off against each other. This fandom is way too small for them to pull these immature, pathetic stunts. It’s shameful.

Does Shipping even translate well to "the kids (tm)?"

Yes. I see that term used a lot around the web. Mostly happens on Tumblr, but you can see it elsewhere too.

Seems as though it was a typo or something, because when I looked at Amazon a few days ago, it said Spike.

Really concerning when they can’t get their press releases right!

I’m sure it was just total incompetence but after the Angel baiting they did in the first volume it was especially annoying. It’s literally everywhere too, Instagram, Facebook, artists page, ‘writers’ page.

Well hey let’s give benefit of the doubt

Maybe it’s revealed that this Spike’s human name was “Angel”. So technically Angel was living with them the whole time. 🤣 I’m excited to see how they continue to incompetently screw with Bangel fans. Maybe the next special has Buffy saying she sees him as a brother.

There's a nice old man filled with sage advice, if some find it a little depressing or off putting, and has a weird sense of humor given that he says how he loves living in Hell as the commute to Earth is quite easy.

Ah, yes, Holland Manners. He says he loves BOOM! comics, a subsidiary of Wolfram & Hart who just bought it out before telling the "real story of Angel." They have a lottery on just how bad they can get, and it's the next best thing to just pimping the characters of the franchise outright.

He did mention that there was talk of simply stealing some shipping comics from online, having the AI change it just a bit to make them even more weird and erotic ("imagine if the writers and artists were on acid that they took to calm down after 5 days of no sleep due to the meth they regularly used to meet deadlines"), and giving them plenty of material to grab 'em by the short hairs. But what's the fun in making money off of something people actually want? Besides, while his firm appreciates the initiative of thieves, his firm also profits from the sale of meth to their crunched workers.

He said something about a BOOM Buffy convention where they answer a different question from the one you asked, and if that's still not enough to get them to stop throwing money at them, they'll gamble by actually slapping them, then making a public apology on YT which has more ads than annoying apology about sorry if you feel bad, and hope you'll leave your mom's basement to come to the next convention. Rinse, repeat. They feel there's nothing they can't get away with.

I asked what if someone got in without paying so didn't feel pressured to endure the abuse, and he said either hire them for their initiative, or place them in a suburban home where there's a demon in the basement, and the only way to not be hideously tortured is to read the stuff that was considered too tasteless, unethical, and downright horrible even by BOOM. They'll laugh at the ones dumb enough to choose to read BOOM instead of the demon.

Oh wow I’m surprised you caught that one. What an awful mess that book has turned into as well
Spiderman is always written, edited and illustrated by top tier talent, whereas Buffy usually isn't.

I feel like I'm missing pages while reading this, and the story feels too hunky-dory. I get that Thess is a teen with angst, I relate to that, but it's all a little to sudden. We get like a page with the Tara encounter, Spike almost dies and then we hold hands? I like the vibe, but I feel like the book is trying to reach the vibe while also skipping context.
