On its on as a piece of music I probably prefer the Angel theme. But within the context of the show I think the Buffy theme is better and just more iconic. I love both though.
Angel theme is not good compared to buffy

Angel - love the cello, it sounds mournful and achey, but there's a part where voices come in and it loses it's serious quality and begins to sound cheesy.
Buffy - upbeat drums and guitars, the key changes work well and I love the slidey guitar sound. For me there's no cheese here at all, just upbeat fun, making me think of Oz and the Dingoes on stage and the scoobs in the audience.

I like the Angel theme better, but I admit it's pretty generic. Buffy's theme is like NextGen or Superfriends, it's iconic, and it puts you in the mood for the show. Angel is like the late 90s trek theme that could have been used for any of the three series.
