Question After the fall: Angel the only one who remembers?

Angel's emotionally vulnerable state after the events of 'After the fall' where part of the reason that he fell into allegiance with Twilight. I remembered him saying that he was the only one who remembered what it was like when LA was hell.
Does that mean that Gunn doesn't remember being a Vampire and that Spike and Illyria don't remember hosting a human safe-haven with Connor?

Illyria's tendency to switch back to Fred started in HelLA and continues into the rest of the comics and Wolfram and Hart are still trying to get a foothold on earth again. So it clearly had consequences, but is never directly mentioned again (as far as I recall).

Does anyone remember what the explanation for this was?
 
No he's not the only one who remembers. They made a point of the fact that when W&H returned the city back to the moments before it was sent to Hell, everyone retained their memories of Hell-A. Some explained it away as a bad dream, others remembered it clearly and the rest were screenwriters so they tried to turn the events into a movie 😉
