Ok so I was seemingly wrong about this being a vehicle to reboot. It was fun to see some season 3 show Buffy, Angel’s cameo was quite funny but not particularly in character. I don’t get what’s going on with the covers, are we going to see the post season 7 scoobies? I don’t really want that.

I enjoyed this issue a lot. It was fast paced, with lots of action and some good jokes. It didn't really make much use of the tv-Buffy, but it was nice to see them all. We even got Snyder, The Mayor and Angel, though Angel seemed a bit out of character because we could see what he was thinking, which I guess is another meta-joke.

My usual criticism stands - this comic is not about Buffy at all, she hardly has a personality, is only around to hit things and be a friend to other characters. This issue was about Willow, as most have been. There are actually so many slayers, watchers and lesbians in these comics, it's no wonder Buffy hardly gets a look in.

That's not surprising considering who the "showrunner" is and their views on Willow. I recall them saying something about (paraphrasing) they wished Willow had more storylines in the show.

The early issues were very Xander focused and I think they did great work with the character. The later issues have been very Willow-centric and Buffy is just a side character.

I’m glad others are still giving these a go. I think it’s really important to support the franchise if we want it to go on.

I do, I just wish they’d out put content I actually want to go on. Every new title or version I get cautiously excited, then disappointed.

Indeed. If you support crap, it's all you'll get in return.

Everyone: don’t get excited about the art

Me: Can’t be that bad

The comics: Cordelia the haggard 45-year old divorcé mother of Xander who is fed up with his nonsense
(lookswise that is)

Angel looked like a generic dude I barely got who it was.

I wish there had been a decent story before the multiverse, now it just seems like it is gonna be even more jumbled.

I’m really tired of Willow. We’ve already done a dark Willow thing, and she has had all the emotional stuff due to the Xander-Willow focus as a continuing story. Can someone else, even if not Buffy, get a go at having a character arc and I don’t know, develop beyond being shadows of the original characters.

Oh no, as I wrote that I just realized, its gonna be Spike isn’t it. Spike is gonna get to be a Willow-esque lead soon, isn’t he?

(Let’s by all means not explore the original character Rose. It isn’t as if she has potential or anything)

You’ll absolutely adore the ongoing The Vampire Slayer series. ;)

Well, I feel like it is fine if they actually go ”ok, Willow is the lead”

But here there are so many characters crammed in, as if it is an ensemble, but only one (two with Xander I guess) gets real development. The others are just set dressing and I wish they’d been more balanced.

And I would have wanted more Buffy as the title still has her name in it

I feel like the characters lack any personality in the comics. In the show, they had a lot of depth and personality, but in the comics they just seem really flat.

I wish that in season eight the writers stuck with one story-line. I didn't like all of the nonsensical plot twists, like dawn being a giant then a centaur then a doll. I didn't dislike the comics, I just feel like they strayed away from what the show originally was.

Season 8 was about 3 arcs too long, and ended awfully, and it was still the best of the official comic seasons or reboots. No Future for You is still one of my favorite Buffy stories, even if it is really a Faith comic, it just gets her character extremely well. And the whole Dracula arc was great too. After about those 13 issues it really went off the rails. And the Twilight arc was painful, the mask only existed to hide Angel from the audience, and it made ZERO sense with where the character was at either the end of S5 of Angel or in his own series which was KILLING it at the time. After the Fall was seriously underrated.

BOOMffy started off very strong, but after Xander was vamped and dusted the entire book just fell apart. The art sucked, the story was nonsensical and impossible to follow, and the multiverse stuff was even worse. The new reboot is meh.

I agree that the story was nonsensical and impossible to follow. Half of the time I was reading the comics, I had no idea what was going on. I didn't like the whole twilight arc either. It made no sense with what was going on in the Ats finale. Overall I was kinda disappointed with the comics, but I still feel like they're over-hated.
