On reflection, Mr. Trick might be. A vampire scoundrel trying to make his way up the Nation's chain of command, kind of like Quark, but with zero conscience. Yes, his origin story would be called the Killing Trick. Yes, the detective tracking him would be played by Will Arnette. Yes, the line, "It's not Trick... It's an illusion!" would be slowly built up to.

I think the writers had it right. It was between Faith and Giles. Both shows were pitched. Eliza turned hers down and the Ripper one never materialized.

I would have watched both. I assume the Giles-centered one would have been a mini-series (5-6 episodes). There wasn't enough material to go for longer than that. However, a Faith-centered TV show could have lasted a while, exploring Faith's past with flashbacks and expending her character and the Buffyverse post-Angel. I think Eliza really missed her chance there. Ah well!

EDIT: Just noticed Kennedy is in the poll. THIS MUST BE A JOKE RIGHT? DONE ON PURPOSE? o_O

Re: Kennedy. I'm sure someone thought "The Facts of Life with Vampires" would be a great fourth tier spin off, but as none of the potentials ever really took off, it probably wasn't formally pitched.

Definitely Giles. The pitch for Faith from what I understand is that she would go from town to town on her motorcycle fighting new monsters wherever she ended up. I don't need to watch it because I could write the scripts myself, including some flashbacks just to fill in time and break the monotony. But Giles is an interesting case. What started him into demonology? What did he do in university that had Eyghon follow him? How did one of his colleagues die in a magic ritual? To borrow a term from thermodynamics, there are more degrees of freedom in Giles' story than in Faith's. There are more directions it could go in. The only problem is, it would have to be filmed in England which might not appeal to US-based writers.

"Ripper" was planned to have been filmed in England and produced by the BBC.
